Graduate Student, Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology
About
I graduated Spring '09 from the University of Central Florida with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on philosophy and psychology, with a minor in cognitive science. I just finished up my Masters in philosophy at Louisiana State University. In the Fall '11, I will be starting at the philosophy-neuroscience-psychology PhD program at Washington University, St Louis. My primary interests are at the intersection between philosophy of mind and the interdisciplinary field of cognitive science, with a special interest in the philosophy of psychology, philosophy of perception, philosophical and empirical approaches consciousness, general theories of intentionality (the question of direct realism, disjunctivism, etc.), representations, folk psychology, social cognition, animal minds, origins of cognition and language, the question of how language changes cognition, and phenomenological psychology. I utilize an ecological approach to understanding minds. Moreover, by emphasizing the social and linguistic dimensions of human cognition and consciousness, I hope to update phenomenological concepts in light of recent research in the cognitive sciences. I am also interested in reviving Julian Jaynes’ neglected theory of bicamerality and consciousness by integrating it with phenomenological insights along with modern research in neuropsychology, archaeology, and anthropology.
